Fundraising
The Children’s Sports Day is self-funding and non-profit making.

Funds are raised by the Committee in the following ways:

  • a free programme is produced which includes advertisements by local businesses
  • direct sponsorship of activities is provided by local businesses
  • the stalls operating during the afternoon contribute a proportion of their profits towards the running of the day
  • a raffle is held on the Sports Day afternoon
  • a fund-raising dance for parents is held in March at Poppleton Community Centre which, through entrance charges, a raffle and sponsorship, has raised substantial amounts towards the costs of the Sports Day over it’s 6 year history.

Surplus funds after the Sports Day are reviewed at the AGM in October, and applications from local children groups are invited and considered for funding of specific purchases or activities out of any surplus. A reserve is maintained for the proverbial "Wet Day" which, fortunately, has rarely occured.
